MOST OUT THERE DON'T GET IT

George Offerman

Today we are going to look at the groups who don’t get it about the times we live in, or the opportunity we have to effect real change in the upcoming races for the House and Senate. Sure, these organizations talk a good game, but at the end of the day, they will obey their puppet masters and will take a mediocre position as to not offend the enemy, and then they will claim victory that should be credited to the tea party. Then the standard operating procedure for them will kick into high gear: they will fund raise, and obtain millions through fraud; taking credit for other’s work and then claim “We are winning this war, keep funding us”.

Fr. Frank Pavone of Priests for Life has stated clearly “America will not reject abortion until America sees abortion”. Well, Fr. Frank and all the others who have held to this position are now getting their wish with Missy Smith. Now, Let’s see if they put their money where their mouth is, and follow through. So far Fr. Frank has endorsed Missy Smith, but my wife tells me that she posted a link on Fr. West’s face book wall, and it has been deleted. Fr. West is associated with Priests for Life. Also, April Klazema, Communications and blogger relations supervisor has contacted me in regards to interviewing Fr. Frank. I am currently attempting to set this up. The Susan B. Anthony list also contacted me and has inquired into my interest in linking blogs and information. So, I will be holding off any commentary on either of these groups until I hear (or don’t hear) back.

We will start with the National Right to Life. This group most recently supported pro death Senator Scott Brown in Massachusetts, and have had questionable endorsements for years, if not decades. The National Right to Life is the most prominent pro-life group out there, and they have embraced and practiced incrementalism from the onset. This group, more than any other in the nation, has lead the pro life movement into the abyss where it continues to languish as a gutted and inconsequential movement, that only now looks like it has life because of the tea party. Again, taking credit for work done by others.

From the National Right to Life, we can look at many if not most of the State Right to Life organizations, which for the most part, tow the line with the National office. They sell their wares as if they are truly pro life, and end up endorsing the ‘lesser of the evil’ candidates and peddle this as pro life. Little accountability of those elected, and the elected congressmen and Senators have little to no fear of these groups. These groups, almost to a ‘tee’ do not use controversial and charged language, and downplay graphic images. They play softball with the enemy and try to sell this as the major league.

Then we have the press, which starts from the USCCB on down to the diocesan level, to the ‘ghetto’ press, the Internet presence, blogs and internet sites that want to claim to be the number one source of pro-life news. (I do have to give Kudos to Steve Ertelt and life news for covering Missy’s campaign, but we need to see more, a lot more) these are some of the same groups that gripe about ‘media blackout’ but are guilty of doing this to Mrs. Smith’s campaign. Please, don’t gripe in the future when the MSM does this to you in the future. This is called sowing and reaping.

This is an opportunity for the pro life movement to do something that will get the attention of the elite in this country, but those in charge of the organizations must understand that it will move them beyond their comfort zones, and ‘piss off’ the enemy. The way God wants it to be.

AN OPEN LETTER TO SENATOR LINDSAY GRAHAM

George Offerman

So, Senator Graham, you decided to be the sole Republican to support the nomination of Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court. You are making a claim that it is in the best interest to proceed with this nomination, as “We lost, and President Obama won.” This has done nothing but cause Obama to now boast that he has ‘bipartisan’ support for this anti life nominee, and you have managed to paint yourself, and other supposed pro life standard bearers as liars and frauds. It is time you start thinking about life after the Senate, because you have sold out the babies for the last time.

You made a personal reference to Ms. Kagan’s sense of humor and that you liked her for it. While this is a good trait for a party or stand up comedian, it is highly irrelevant for a Supreme Court Justice who will be making life and death decisions over the most vulnerable in this society, that you supposedly pledged to uphold. There is no humor about propagating legalized child killing, especially the grisly partial birth abortion procedure, that Kagan had personally endorsed, and placed into an ACOG document while as a Policy Adviser in the Clinton administration.

You then go on to talk out of both sides of your mouth by declaring that you have a duty as per the Constitution, to not replace or question Obama’s Judgment with your own concerning this nominee, due to having ‘lost this battle’. You then state a little later on that in your judgment, she has passed all of the ‘scrutiny’ that should be required of a nominee, which would seem to indicate you do, in fact, count on your own judgment (in certain instances, when convenient). So, it seems you can run for office on a pro life plank, which is based upon your supposed personal beliefs, and then leave them outside the door, when politically; it looks like you lost, and use the constitution to justify this action? Evidently, you must see judgments and personal convictions as relative, and can be disposed of depending upon the particular circumstances. Unfortunately, babies cannot be resurrected from the dead and change their status to living as you seem willing to change your positions on your beliefs.

You also state that Ms. Kagan seems to understand that ‘we are at war’. The one who seems to not understand we are at war appears to be you, Senator Graham. We are at war for the soul of our country, and the essence of our soul is the very basic right to life. You claim to uphold this, while Obama and nearly all of his appointments have consistently upheld the culture of death. Ms. Kagan, by her own admission, thinks like Obama, and we should be real clear by now how Obama thinks of this issue. Senator Graham, the taking of the most innocent of lives is THE CAUSE of wars, and other tribulations our country is facing. Your assertion that you will have plenty of opportunities to ‘disagree’ with the president, does not carry the moral gravity of legalized child killing, and your statement justifying your position in supporting this woman is nothing short of cowardice, and selling out your supposed beliefs.

It is becoming too much of a common mantra for Republicans like you to run on the plank of pro life, only to be sold down the river when it is time to stand up and act statesman like. You then come back with false humility, and attempt to sell your cowardice as bravely fighting for the cause. You may think that you have four years to let this betrayal ‘settle down’, and run for re election in 2014, but I can assure you Sir, many of us will not forget, and we will be there come re election time. You can COUNT ON THAT as an election promise.

Senator Graham, your career as a Senator is finished. There are those of us willing to spend the next four years fighting you, and I am sure there are plenty of good people in South Carolina who are as sick of you selling out as those outside of your state. Our country is at a most critical juncture in its existence, and desperately needs those willing to stand up for what is right, moral and ethical, and you, Sir, do not meet the bill. Therefore you must go.

AN ENORMOUS OPPORTUNITY

George Offerman

Health care continues to be front and center in the current debate throughout the country, and among most pro life groups. There seems to be repercussions for many of the democrats, especially in the Senate, as it appears there are now two prominent Senators choosing to not run for reelection. While the election is some ways off, and much can happen in the mean time, what is the pro life movement going to do with what may be considered a ‘once in a decade’ chance to make an impact?

It seems many of the pro life groups are looking to the Republican Party for their answers. If one looks at the track record for this, it is rather abysmal, and most likely will end up in the same fashion, as the last opportunity, in 1994, when “The Contract for America” was introduced by Rep Gingrich and co. At that time, there was hope that some sane legislation would be passed, but ultimately, they capitulated to Clinton, due to Clinton’s desire to win, and use whatever means necessary to do so.

Ultimately, it was their lack of conviction in believing the platform they ran on, that allowed for the disaster that we are still dealing with. The Republicans had a brief opportunity to do something of substance whit Bush in office, but once again, sold out on their core convictions. The ‘asleep at the wheel’ majority of the American electorate then voted in the current crowd of cronies, and look where we are now.

We really have an opportunity to shape the debate as a movement, but it will take some unprecedented courage, and tactics not normally used to do this. Legalized child killing is front and center as the main obstacle and the first task at hand is to make clear to BOTH PARTIES that passing this bill allowing for federal funding of legalized child killing will result in them losing their jobs. Anything less than that by us will be a SELL OUT. If we don’t do this, then it will only show the current tactics of ‘tolerance, education and being nice’ not only is an abject failure, but actually brings great harm to the cause of ending legalized child killing.

We have had a prime example of this with a small group in Hawaii that protested in many locations that Obama appeared in. This small group received a significant amount of secular press, and received very little in the mainstream pro life media. Their efforts are continuing to make news, but more importantly, tying Obama and legalized child killing together. Efforts like this will make the point to those who openly lie about their positions, get elected and think they get a free pass, to think twice about that strategy. We need to hold these elected officials accountable, and actually follow through with throwing them out of office.

We also need to find and elect representatives that will not compromise, or subscribe to ‘incrementalism’ as a strategy in ending legalized child killing. For too long, the mainstream pro life movement has tied themselves to this losing strategy, and most of the representatives in the Republican party have learned to throw just enough ‘red meat’ to the profilers, to get reelected and continue on in their mediocre efforts at ending legalized child killing. These elected officials need to have the ‘fear of God’ instilled on them, and actually earn the right to represent this cause.

The question is, are we up to this task, or will it be delegated to the large institutional pro life groups, such as National Right to Life, to do our thinking and activities for us? We need to stand up as the Christians God called us to be, and get the job done. If not us, then who, if not now, when?
